The Pittsfield Federated Church wants to extend to you, your family and friends an invitation to join them Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. for a Thanksgiving Communion service. Pastor Howard Gunter can think of no better way to give thanks to a loving, faithful God. They also extend to you and your family a wonderful family day around the table, in front of the television watching parades or football and basking in each others love and certainly the love of God.

There will be a special town meeting Wednesday November 18th at 7pm in the basement of the Pittsfield Town Hall.  This meeting concerns the future of the Pittsfield Town Office and Library building.  The selectboard and building committee also ask that you fill out the survey you received and return it by December 1st.

The Sherburne Memorial Library in Killington is pleased to announce a visit by Author Woden Teachout on Wednesday evening, November 11th at 7:00pm.  Her book, “Capture the Flag, a Political History of American Patriotism” is the Book Club selection and the discussion of the book will be with the author.

Veteran’s Day is an appropriate time for reflecting on this aspect of our heritage.  “Capture the Flag” records the flag’s history: the ways it has been pulled back and forth, from one political party to another, from one social movement to another.  The author argues that the flag is not powerful in spite of its ambiguity; it is powerful because of its ambiguity.

“…Woden Teachout argues convincingly that patriotic symbols-like patriotism itself-have always meant different things to different Americans.”-Wasington Post

Books may be reserved by calling the library at 422-9765.  The input of the author will highlight the evening. Refreshments will be served.

Trail work day on the Hayes Brook reroute Saturday September 19th at 9:00am.  Meet at the Forest Service Kiosk at the end of Upper Michigan Road and we will shuttle folks who don't have a high clearance vehicle up to the trail head.

Tools:
Bring a shovel, Mcleod or mattock, pulaski if you have one. Or bring a rake and shovel if you don't have the other tools.  A few pairs of loppers and a couple hand saws would be handy as well.

Hardhats are required so please let me know if you don't have one(chainsaw helmets work fine).  I will borrow some from the forest service for anyone who needs one but I will need to know ahead to pick them up Friday.

We will have some bike club tools there.

We will be working on a handbuilt benchcut singletrack  reroute along the whole top of the Hayes Brook Trail.

Lunch will be provided.  Please bring plenty of water to drink.

Come out and support Mountain Biking in the National Forest!
